Gerhard Banik

Gerhard Banik (* 1948 ) is a chemist and professor emeritus at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.

Live and act

Gerhard Banik studied technical chemistry from 1967 to 1973 at the Technical University (from 1975: Technical University ) in Vienna . There he received his doctorate in 1976 and also completed his habilitation in 1982 in the subject “Organic Raw Materials Science ”.

From 1990 to 2008 he was a professor at the Institute for Painting Technology in Stuttgart and professor of the course “Restoration and Conservation of Graphics, Archives and Library Goods” at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . In 2008 he retired.

In addition, he was and is still a lecturer at the Technical University of Vienna, where he currently works at the Institute for Process Engineering, Environmental Technology and Technical Biosciences. He is also a permanent employee of ICCROM in Rome .

Among other things, Banik led development work in the areas of: non-aqueous deacidification and mass preservation processes as well as enzyme applications in paper restoration and paint layer consolidation using ultrasound atomized binder solutions.
