Gerhard Deter

Gerhard Deter (born April 20, 1950 in Lippstadt ) is a German legal scholar and historian. He was Ministerialrat in the Scientific Service of the German Bundestag and taught and researched as a private lecturer in legal history at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Life

After attending school in Lippstadt, Gerhard Deter studied law and history at the Universities of Münster and Freiburg. In 1977 he passed the first state examination in Münster and the second state examination in 1980 in Düsseldorf . In 1986 he was at the University of Münster Dr. jur. and in 1987 Dr. phil. PhD. He then received a grant from the German Research Foundation . From 1990 to 1991 he headed the economic policy seminar of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation at Eichholz Castle . In 1991 he joined the administration of the German Bundestag , of which he was a member in Bonn and Berlin until he retired in 2015. After assignments in the scientific service , the Labor and Social Department, the Fiduciary Investigation Committee and the Committee on Election Review, Immunity and Rules of Procedure , he was head of the press documentation unit (2005-2008), head of the health, family, senior citizens, women and youth department (2008-2013 ) and Head of Labor and Social Affairs (2013–2015).

Since 2005 he has been working as a lecturer and, after his habilitation, as a private lecturer in legal history at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His main research interests include legal, economic and social history from the 18th to 20th centuries, regional history and labor and social law. In his legal history work, too, Deter consistently deals with the issues and methods of economic and social history and makes them fruitful for legal history. He also emphasizes the importance of legal history for economic and social history research and also pursues a national or regional historical approach in legal history.
