Gerhard Fischer (inventor)

Gerhard Richard Fischer later Gerhard Richard Fisher , Gerhard R. Fisher (born March 18, 1899 in Landshut , Bavaria , German Empire ; † May 2, 1988 in Palo Alto , Santa Clara Valley , California , USA ) was an American German entrepreneur Origin. He was the inventor of the metal detector .

Life

After studying electrical engineering at the University of Dresden , he emigrated to the USA. In 1931 he founded the company Fisher Research Laboratory, Inc. in Palo Alto, which he chaired until his retirement in 1967. He worked there on the development of a radio navigation device. Environment-dependent changes were found. From the interference from metal, he concluded that the device must also be suitable for detecting metal. In 1937 he patented his metal detector.
