Gerhard Geisler (General)

Gerhard Geisler (born September 8, 1925 - August 30, 2019 in Berlin ) was a major general of the German People's Police in the GDR .

Life

Geisler joined the SED , became a member of the People's Police and started an officer career. As Colonel of the VP he was from 1971 First Deputy Head of Supply Services in the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR .

Geisler studied at the University of the German People's Police "Karl Liebknecht" in East Berlin and received his doctorate in 1975 with the dissertation A: Operational and economic aspects of the material and technical security of the German People's Police .

On June 22, 1982 the chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR , Erich Honecker , appointed him major general of the VP and at the same time deputy head of the political administration of the GDR Ministry of the Interior for organizational work with effect from July 1, 1982 . He held this position until he was retired for health reasons in December 1987.

Geisler was also a member of the editorial board of the MdI's monthly “ Die Volkspolizei ”.

Geisler died at the age of 93. His urn was buried in Berlin.
