Gerhard Hellwig
Gerhard Hellwig (born July 17, 1925 in Berlin ; † January 15, 2011 there ) was a German conductor and choir director.
Career
After returning home from captivity, he founded the Schöneberg Boys' Choir on November 12, 1947 . He was also deputy opera director in Frankfurt , managing director of the Berliner Festwochen and co-founder of the Berliner Theatertreffen .
With the Schöneberg Boys' Choir, he made numerous records and undertook more than 300 concert tours in Germany and abroad. He performed in the White House and on the Steuben Parade in New York City .
Hellwig led his boys' choir for more than sixty years until 2010. He put the choir on hold because of an eye operation that year. At Christmas 2010, he fell in his apartment in the apartment building on Budapester Straße and suffered a fractured femur. He died on January 15, 2011 at the age of 85.
