Gerhard I. (Eppstein)
Gerhard I. von Eppstein (* approx. 1143 , † after 1190 ), who was also known as Gerhard II. Or III. von Hainhausen or Hagenhausen is known, was a nobleman of the Eppstein family . The Eppsteiners, who succeeded in establishing one of the most important aristocratic rule in Hesse in the late Middle Ages and who were wealthy in Spessart, Taunus and Wetterau as early as 1200, were noble lords and had four archbishops of Mainz at the 13th century .
Life
Gerhard I was the son of Gerhard I von Hagenhausen . The mother's name is not known.
His appearance is documented in the period from 1166 to 1191. The name of his wife is still unclear.
The following descendants are known:
- NN (daughter) von Hainhausen (* unknown, † after 1190), married to Konrad von Merenberg
- Gottfried I von Eppstein (* between approx. 1160 and 1169, † 1223), married to Isalda von Wied (* unknown, † 1123), a daughter of Count Dietrich I (Wied) and sister of the Archbishop of Trier and Elector Theoderich II from Wied
- Siegfried II. Von Eppstein (around 1165; † September 9, 1230 in Erfurt), Archbishop of Mainz from 1200–1230 (schism until 1208)
- Hildegard von Eppstein (* unknown, † unknown), married to Philipp II. Von Bolanden (* unknown, † after 1189)
