Gerhard Köhlmeier

Gerhard Köhlmeier (born September 12, 1938 in Hard ; † July 8, 2006 in the lung sanatorium Gaisbühel , Bludesch ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Köhlmeier was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1969 to 1974 and mayor of his home town of Hard from 1970 to 1998.

Life

From 1970 to 1998 Köhlmeier was mayor of the municipality of Hard in the state of Vorarlberg . At the age of 31 when he took office, he was Austria's youngest mayor.

In addition, Köhlmeier was President of the Vorarlberg Association of Municipalities from 1985 to 1995. After that, the Association of Municipalities elected him to be its Vice President from 1995 to 2000 and honorary president in 2000. After leaving the mayor's office, Köhlmeier was, among other things, President of the Institute for Social Services (IfS) from January 1, 1999.

Gerhard Köhlmeier was chairman of the finance committee of the Austrian Association of Municipalities for many years, and was an important partner and recognized expert in numerous rounds of negotiations on financial equalization and municipal finances. For this reason, the Austrian Association of Municipalities awarded him honorary membership in 2001.

In the state elections in Vorarlberg in 1969 , Gerhard Köhlmeier was elected to the Vorarlberg state parliament as a member of the Bregenz electoral district . He was a member of the parliament from October 29, 1969 to November 3, 1974, during which time he was a member of the cultural committee and the social policy committee of the state parliament.

Köhlmeier was married and the father of four sons. His son Harald Köhlmeier was also elected mayor of Hard in 2010.
