Gerhard Kluge (literary scholar)

Gerhard Kluge (* 1935 in Sayda ) is a German Germanist and professor emeritus in the Netherlands.

Life

Kluge began his studies in 1953 at the University of Leipzig a . a. with Hermann August Korff . In 1957 he passed the state examination. After completing his studies, he fled the GDR to the FRG, where he started over at the University of Cologne a . a. at Paul Böckmann . Kluge received his doctorate from Böckmann in 1963 with the dissertation Game and Joke in Romantic Comedy - On the Structure of Comedy Poetry in German Romanticism . He completed his habilitation with a text-critical edition of Friedrich Schiller's Don Karlos , which appeared as volumes 6 and 7 of the Schiller National Edition .

In 1975, Gerhard Kluge was appointed to a chair for modern German literature at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen, today Radboud University Nijmegen , where he made a contribution to the modernization of the study of German literature.

In 2000, Gerhard Kluge retired and now lives in Dresden.
