Gerhard Kocher (born February 7, 1939 in Bern ) is a Swiss publicist , political scientist , health economist and aphorist .

life and work

Gerhard Kocher was born on February 7, 1939 in Bern. He lives in Muri near Bern . After graduating in business school , he studied economics and political science at the University of Bern and the Free University of Berlin until 1964, receiving his doctorate in 1966. From 1966-1968 he worked for the American global trading company Cargill / Tradax in Geneva. From 1968 to 1974 he was secretary of the Swiss Center for Trade Promotion OSEC (today: Business Network Switzerland) in Zurich . In 1970 he founded the “Swiss Association for Future Research ” (today: Swissfuture ) together with Bruno Fritsch . From 1972 to 1995 he was also editor-in-chief of the magazine "Zukunftsforschung".

Since 1974 he has been working as a freelance consultant and journalist , primarily in the healthcare sector and in future research. In 1976 Kocher founded the “Swiss Society for Health Policy” (SGGP). From its establishment until 2002, he was the central secretary (managing director) of the SGGP and editor-in-chief of the specialist bulletin “Health Policy Information” (GPI). In the SGGP series of publications he edited, a total of 117 books on health care were published by 2013.

In 2007 Kocher received the Swiss Health Economics Prize from the Swiss Association for Health Economics. Kocher has been awarded the German Medical Association's Badge of Honor (2001).
