Gerhard Kongehl

Gerhard Kongehl is a German graduate physicist and expert on data protection .

Kongehl did his doctorate with a thesis on the information-theoretical analysis of the human inner ear . In 1978 he was appointed the first data protection officer in Baden-Württemberg by the University of Ulm . In 1983 he received his first teaching assignment in the subject of data protection in Baden-Württemberg from the universities in Ulm.

In 1987 he co-founded the training to become competent data protection officers according to the Ulm model, based on the judgment on the expertise of data protection officers at the Ulm Regional Court.

In 1989 he was a founding member and until 2004 federal chairman of the professional association of data protection officers in Germany (BvD) eV .

Kongehl has been Professor of Data Protection, Data Security and Technology Assessment at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences since 1993.

Kongehl has been a partner, managing director and scientific director of the Ulm Academy for Data Protection and IT Security, udis gGmbH, since it was founded in 2004.

Kongehl is the editor of the loose-leaf collection "Data Protection Management" published by Haufe-Verlag .

On October 8, 2014 Kongehl received the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to data protection, which was presented to him in January 2015 in Ulm .
