Gerhard Krebs (historian)

Gerhard Krebs (born September 9, 1943 in Warsaw ) is a German historian and former visiting professor of Japanese Studies at the Free University of Berlin .

After studying history and German language and literature in Hamburg and Freiburg (1965–1971), Krebs received a DAAD scholarship to study Japanese at the University of Bonn and the Naganuma School in Tokyo . This was followed by a scholarship at Sophia University from 1976 to 1978 and a lecturer position at Waseda University from 1981 to 1986 .

In Germany, Krebs completed his doctorate in Freiburg in July 1982. At first, from 1987 to 1990, he was a research assistant at the History Department of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . From 1990 to 1995 he carried out research at the German Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo , from 1996 to 1999 at the Military History Research Office in Potsdam and was a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Trier in 1999/2000 . In 2000 he completed his habilitation in Japanology at the University of Hamburg . From the winter semester 2000/2001 onwards, Krebs became a visiting professor for Japanese Studies at the Free University of Berlin .

In 1987 he was awarded the Japan Prize of the German Society for Nature and Ethnology of East Asia (OAG) for the print version of the dissertation of Japan's policy on Germany 1935–1941 .
