Gerhard Lindbichler

Gerhard Lindbichler (born April 13, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian mathematician , founder of the House of Mathematics in Vienna (HdMa), author of school and specialist books and specialist articles. He is also a screenwriter, commentator, and producer of math films.

Life

Gerhard Lindbichler studied mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna and passed the teaching examination with Edmund Hlawka and Georg Stetter . He did his doctorate under Leopold Butterer and from 1973 taught mathematics for secondary school teachers at the Pedagogical Academy in Vienna. He has been retired since 2001.

Lindbichler tries to popularize mathematics and founded the House of Mathematics in 2003 . It is also very important to him to document Austrian world mathematicians in films in the film series TALKS WITH MATHEMATICS produced by him and the Austrian Mathematical Society (ÖMG). Shot off so far: Leopold Butterer , Edmund Hlawka , Wolfgang Schmidt , Harald Niederreiter and Peter M. Gruber .

Private

Gerhard Lindbichler is the nephew of Friedrich Sacher and the brother-in-law of Franz Horak .
