Life

Mock trained as a fitter at the Funder company and then worked for the Austrian Federal Railways . He is married and has one daughter.

Mock has been politically active since the 1970s and was chairman of the young generation . In 1979 he was elected to the local council of St. Veit, in 1985 he took over the function of a city council before he became mayor in 1989. In the municipal council election in 2003, he achieved 76 percent of the votes in the direct mayor election.

In 2004 Mock moved into the state parliament. Mock was a frequent critic of the respective party leaders and ran for the position of the Carinthian SPÖ party chairman in 2005. However, he was defeated by Gabriele Schaunig-Kandut . He himself was criticized several times for being close to the BZÖ and Jörg Haider and is said to have failed in the election against Schaunig because of this. Mock left the state parliament at his own request on April 24, 2008 and was replaced by Klaus Köchl . Köchl had already replaced Mock as SPÖ district party chairman in May 2007 after Mock had left his position for lack of time.

In the 2015 municipal council election , Gerhard Mock was confirmed as mayor of the city of St. Veit for another 6 years in the direct mayor election. He announced his retirement from office for the end of March 2020, but postponed it by 2 weeks to "after Easter", around April 14, 2020, in the course of the Corona crisis , and announced that he would retire. Martin Kulmer succeeded him as mayor in April 2020.
