Gerhard Rühlmann

Gerhard Rühlmann (born February 13, 1930 in Halle (Saale) ; † November 21, 2005 there ) was a German Egyptologist .

Gerhard Rühlmann graduated from high school in 1949 and then did an internship in a public library. In 1950 he began studying history at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), and in 1952 he switched to oriental archeology . In 1954 he passed the diploma examination and in 1955 was a scheduled scientific aspirant. In 1957/58 he was able to undertake a study trip to Egypt . The doctorate took place in September 1959 with Heinz Mode and Friedrich Schlette , the subject of the dissertation was The Development of Scientific Illustration in Archaeological Literature. (With special consideration of oriental archeology), then Rühlmann became a senior scientific assistant at the archaeological seminar. In December 1968 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the subject of investigations into Egyptian niche symbolism , experts were again fashion and Siegfried Morenz . He later became a university lecturer for Egyptology in the Oriental and Classical Studies section at MLU. Rühlmann mainly dealt with the representational architecture of ancient Egypt. His popular science books mostly achieved several editions and some were also translated into other languages.
