Gerhard Teriet

Gerhard Teriet (born January 9, 1917 in Gelsenkirchen ; † November 4, 1995 in Arnsberg ) was a German CDU politician . He was mayor of the city of Arnsberg.

Life and work

After attending elementary school and advanced high school in Arnsberg, Teriet began an apprenticeship until he was drafted into military and military service. After the Second World War, Teriet attended a training course for teachers and after graduating found a teaching position in various districts of what is now Arnsberg. He became rector in Neheim and most recently he worked at the St. Petri secondary school in Hüsten.

Politics / Honors

Teriet joined the CDU after the Second World War . From 1956 he was a member of the council of the former town of Neheim-Hüsten and, after the municipal reorganization in 1975, a member of the council of the town of Arnsberg and its mayor from 1975 to 1984. On September 21, 1984 he was made honorary mayor and on January 9th Elected honorary citizen of the city in 1987. In 1986 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, for his achievements as a local politician .

In the same year, the Catholic Church recognized his political work out of Christian responsibility by awarding him the Knight's Cross of the New Year's Eve . In the Hüsten district of Arnsberg, a street, the Gerhard-Teriet-Weg, was named after him.
