Friedrich Ludwig Aster
Friedrich Ludwig Aster (born November 28, 1732 in Dresden ; † December 1, 1804 there ) was an Electoral Saxon officer and cartographer , most recently major general and head of the engineering corps .
Life
Aster was married to Susanne Ludowike, née Hennig († 1817). The couple had sons Ernst Ludwig and Carl Heinrich .
He served under Friedrich August I. from 1778 as a major , from 1787 as a lieutenant colonel and was assessor of the Obermilitaryamt zu Dresden from 1792. Elector Friedrich August III. commissioned his engineering corps under the direction of Aster with the production of a situation map, which should be suitable for military purposes.
- Saxon miles sheets
Aster was in charge of the topographical survey of the State of Saxony based on triangulation and basic measurements between Sonnenstein and Königstein based on the French model. 424 Saxon mile sheets on a scale of 1: 12,000 were created from the topographical survey of the country carried out between 1780 and 1806. These maps are made available to the public by the Dresden State and University Library (SLUB Dresden) , are downloadable and represent a rich fund for researchers. There are three different editions, the Berlin copy (so-called king copy) with 370 parts (1791 to 1810), the Freiberg copy with 394 sheets (with supplements up to 1876) and the Dresden copy with around 445 sheets (from 1792 with supplements and additions up to the last quarter of the 19th century).
Aster is buried in the Inner Neustädter Friedhof in Dresden.
