As a striking table mountain, the Königstein is part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and is located to the west above the town of the same name, Königstein, on the left bank of the Elbe . It houses the Königstein Fortress on its almost ten hectare sandstone plateau, which rises up to 360.6 m above sea level.
