Gerhard Weissgerber

Gerhard Weißgerber (born October 13, 1905 in Großrosseln , † October 22, 1937 in Kaiserslautern ) was a strong German chess player .

Weißgerber developed into the strongest chess player in the Saarland. So he was the winner of the master tournament at the Palatinate Chess Congress in 1932 in Ludwigshafen and in 1933 in Neustadt / Weinstrasse.

In 1930 he had already qualified for the German championship in Frankfurt. This took place in Swinoujscie in 1931. Although he only finished 9th here, with 5 out of 12 he achieved the necessary number of points to receive the title of German Champion . He achieved the best placement at a German championship in 1935 in Aachen with 5th place.

Further successes in his career were his victory in the main tournament C in the Trebitsch tournament in Vienna in 1926, winning the Rhine championship in 1927 and first place in Zweibrücken in 1928.

Weissgerber achieved his best historical Elo rating of 2562 in May 1934.
