Court marterl between Eggenburg and Schrattenthal

The court marterl in the municipality of the town of Pulkau in Lower Austria is a listed building .

history

Thegerichtsmarterl stands around 100 meters west of the former federal highway 35 on the small hill of the Galgenberg. Here, where the lords of Pulkau and Schrattenthal used to border each other, the legal transactions of the two lords were negotiated. There was also a gallows here until around 1850 .

The age cannot be proven. It is believed, however, that the court marterl with the partly beveled late Gothic pillar and late baroque top has replaced a wooden Red Cross that previously existed here.

description

The three reliefs on the tabernacle , the lower valley of which shows the late Gothic style and is identical to the pillar design, are considered to be the most artistic in the region.

Relief 2 Saints Donatus and John are depicted. The picture is framed with a pearl rod pattern. Columns with rose motifs are depicted on both sides. The roses are an indication that both saints died as martyrs . GuentherZ 2011-10-22 0181 Pulkaugerichtsmarterl DetailA.jpg
