German Erd OCist (born May 9, 1948 in Vils im Ausserfern ) is an Austrian Cistercian and former headmaster . Since 2003 he has been the 44th abbot of Stams Abbey in the Tyrolean Oberland .

Life

German Erd was born as the youngest of six children to his parents. He attended belonging to Stams Gymnasium in Stams and entered after graduation of the Congregation of the Cistercians in. He studied Catholic theology and English in Innsbruck , Salzburg and Oxford . On August 25, 1974, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Paulus Rusch in the collegiate church .

In the following years, Father German Erd was an educator, teacher and boarding school director in Stams for seven years. From 1986 to 2002 he was pastor of Obsteig . From the beginning of the 2002/2003 school year until December 1, 2011, he was director of the Meinhardinum Stams modern-language grammar school with more than 600 students.

On October 15, 2003 he was elected by the convent of the monastery to be the 44th abbot to succeed the abbot Josef Maria Köll, who had retired for reasons of age . His motto is: Dei misericordiae confidens - Trusting in God's mercy .
