Gerold Lange

Gerold Lange (born September 29, 1932 ) is a German basketball official . As manager of the basketball team of the Oldenburger TB for many years and later managing partner of EWE Baskets Oldenburg  , Lange was a pioneer of professional basketball in the city of Oldenburg .

career

Lange, who worked for the Oldenburg dairy group MZO and was a member of the company's board of directors, took over the managerial position at Oldenburg TB in 1976, at that time in the 2nd basketball league . In the same year he brought the American Ralph Ogden to Oldenburg, who in the following years became a formative figure of the club as a player and then as a coach. Lange introduced jersey advertising, which was still unusual at the time. In 1985, the OTB rose to the basketball Bundesliga for the first time during a long term of office  , but stayed there for only one year. In 1987 they made the leap into the Bundesliga again, and again they missed relegation as a climber.

Together with Hermann Schüller , Lange was the driving force behind the bundling of the strengths of the basketball players of the Oldenburg TB and local rivals TSG Westerstede, who first competed in the second division from 1995 as the BC Oldenburg-Westerstede syndicate, later in the operating company Baskets Oldenburg GmbH & Co. KG, was promoted to the Bundesliga in the 1999/2000 season and was renamed EWE Baskets Oldenburg in 2001 . In 2009, the Oldenburg team won the German championship title, which Lange later described as the “most beautiful moment”.

On June 30, 2011, at the age of 78, Lange left EWE Baskets Oldenburg as a managing partner and was appointed honorary president.

In September 2015, Lange and Schüller were awarded the Oldenburg City Seal.
