Franz Copeland Murray "Gerry" Alexander (born November 2, 1928 in Kingston , † April 16, 2011 in Orange Grove , Jamaica) was a West Indian national cricket player from Jamaica .

Life

He was a so-called wicket-keeper-batsman , although he only scored one first-class century in his career.

Alexander was the last white captain of the West Indies cricket team , which he led at home against Pakistan in 1958 and in India and Pakistan in the 1958–59 season. On this tour, he sent the almost bowler Roy Gilchrist home for repeated indiscipline. In the meantime he was replaced as captain by Frank Worrell , who thus became the first black captain. In 1960 against England, Alexander was again the team captain, only to be replaced by Worrell afterwards.

Alexander also played for the English national football team of amateurs and won an award in the English FA Amateur Cup . For Cambridge University he played in both cricket and football. After his cricket career he became a veterinarian in his homeland .
