Gerry Cowper

Geraldine "Gerry" Cowper (born June 23, 1958 in London , England ) is a British actress .

Life

Cowper began her acting career in 1971 with a recurring guest role on the BBC sitcom Bachelor Father . The following year she had a small supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Frenzy . She played another supporting role in 1973 in the horror film The Wicker Man on the side of Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland . After that, she played almost exclusively in television productions. In the 1978 mini-series Chris and Tim she played a 15-year-old girl who had a sexual relationship with a classmate of the same age and thus had problems with her parents. When it was broadcast in Germany in 1980, this series and Gerry Cowper were a frequent topic in the youth magazine Bravo . Today she is known to German-speaking audiences through her portrayal of the housekeeper Ms. Mellon in the British television film Der kleine Lord with Alec Guinness and Ricky Schroder in the leading roles, which is repeated every year at Christmas time. She gained fame among British television audiences through her role as Rosie Miller in the soap opera EastEnders , which she played between 2004 and 2006.

Cowper is the twin sister of actress Jackie Cowper , and her younger sister Nicola is also an actress. Cowper was married for eight years to Mark Foley, who was serving a long prison sentence with Tony McCann in 1988 for a joint bank robbery. Her sister Nicola has been dating McCann since the late 1980s, who was sentenced to 21 years in prison for murder in 2008. Foley was sentenced to 15 years in prison for armed assault in 2006.
