Nicola Cowper
Nicola Jane Cowper (born December 21, 1967 in London , England ) is a British actress .
Life
Cowper made her first film appearance as a baby in the British comedy A Nice Girl Like Me by Desmond Davis . Her actual acting career began on British television in the early 1980s. In 1981 she had one of the lead roles in the BBC series Break in the Sun , which consisted of only six episodes. In the following year she had one of the leading roles in SWALK again, only six episodes of this series emerged. In 1984 she played a guest role in the much more successful series Der Aufpasser . She received her first feature film role in 1985 in the based on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland children's book The Real Life of Alice in Wonderland at the side of Ian Holm and Peter Gallagher . The following year she starred alongside Denholm Elliott in the horror film Underworld . This was followed by leading roles in the adventure film Richard the Lionheart and the Children of God at the side of Eric Stoltz and Gabriel Byrne, produced by Francis Ford Coppola , and in The Journey to the Center of the Earth .
After the commercial failure of her last two Hollywood films , her feature film career ended abruptly and Cowper returned to England, where she worked again for British television. Among other things, she played in 1989 in six episodes in the series Streetwise with Andy Serkis . She is best known to British television audiences for her role as Detective Sergeant Helen Diamond in the series Police Doctor Dangerfield , which she played between 1996 and 1999. She later appeared in a recurring guest role on the soap opera EastEnders .
Cowper is the younger sister of actresses Gerry Cowper and Jackie Cowper . She has been dating Tony McCann since the late 1980s, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 1988 for a bank robbery. His accomplice Mark Foley, who also received a long prison sentence, married Cowper's sister Gerry. The relationship between Cowper and McCann resulted in twins in 1999. In July 2006, McCann murdered a 33-year-old man, whereupon Cowper helped him escape and later warned him by telephone that the police were looking for him. McCann was sentenced to 21 years in prison for murder in 2008.
