Gert Kähler

Gert Kähler (born April 3, 1942 in Hamburg ) is a German architectural historian , architecture critic and publicist .

Life

Gert Kähler studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin . After graduating, he worked in various architectural offices and was then from 1976 a research assistant at the University of Hanover . There he received his doctorate in 1981 and habilitation in 1985. This was followed by visiting professorships at the Technical University of Braunschweig , the Technical University of Berlin and - from 1991 as an adjunct professor - at the RWTH Aachen .

Since 1988 Kähler has been working as a freelance journalist in Hamburg on topics relating to the city and architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to his own publications, he regularly appears in specialist magazines, newspapers and other media, including a. in Die Zeit , Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Süddeutsche Zeitung , culture current (N3) , aspects (ZDF) .

In 2001, Kähler was the author of the first status report on building culture from the Architecture and Building Culture Initiative . He is a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning and the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg .
