Gert Muhr

Gert Muhr (born September 8, 1943 in Graz ) is a surgeon and professor emeritus for surgery and trauma surgery at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Between 1983 and 2010 he was director of the surgical clinic and at the same time medical director of the professional association university clinic Bergmannsheil in Bochum.

Life

Gert Muhr was born in Graz, Austria, in 1943. He completed his medical studies at the University of Graz. In 1970 he moved to the Hannover Medical School . In 1974 he completed his habilitation in trauma surgery, and in October 1977 he was appointed adjunct professor. In 1981 Muhr was offered a chair for trauma surgery at the Homburg University Hospital , where he became director of the trauma surgery department. In 1983 he moved to Bochum and became director of the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of Bergmannsheil, a location of the University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum. At the same time he became professor for surgery and trauma surgery at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB).

Bergmannsheil's Surgical Clinic has 257 beds. It covers the areas of trauma surgery, general surgery, septic surgery, intensive care medicine and neurotraumatology. In addition to acute traumatology, the focus is on the treatment of complications. In 1999 Muhr was also appointed dean of the Medical Faculty of the RUB. He carried out this office uninterruptedly until he left his active service in Bergmannsheil. Muhr retired on September 30, 2010.

Honors

Muhr is an honorary member of numerous national and international professional associations, including the societies for trauma surgery in the USA, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
