Gert Riel (* 1941 in Prien am Chiemsee , Bavaria ) is a German sculptor .

life and work

From 1964 to 1968 Riel studied sculpture with Rudolf Hoflehner at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . In 1989 he was awarded the Erich Heckel Prize of the Baden-Württemberg Artists' Association.

Gert Riel is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives and works in Remshalden- Buoch. From 1968 to 2005 he taught sculpture (metal workshop) at the Stuttgart Academy.

Memorial at Synagogenplatz

A memorial designed by Gert Riel was erected on the site of the former synagogue in Tübingen in 2000. The memorial on Synagogenplatz consists of a cube made of COR-TEN steel, a stele with information and three steel plates with the names of the murdered Jewish citizens and the following text:

"EXCLUDED BY NATIONAL SOCIALISTS AND THEIR HELPERS HUMILIFIED DISRIGIDED MURDERED DISTRIBUTED"
