Gertrud Schröder-Lembke

Gertrud Schröder-Lembke (born September 15, 1908 in Malchow on Poel as Gertrud Minna Charlotte Lembke ; † October 6, 2006 in Goslar ) was a German agricultural historian who did research on Johann Heinrich von Thünen , among others . She was one of the first female habilitation students at the University of Rostock .

Life

Gertrud Schröder-Lembke was born in 1908 as the daughter of Hans Lembke and his wife Luise in Malchow on Poel. She had a sister and two brothers. Her father was a successful farmer and from 1946 to 1958 professor of plant breeding at the University of Rostock. From 1921 to 1924 Schröder-Lembke attended the Lyceum in Wismar, followed by training in home economics, after which she moved to the Oberlyzeum in Rostock in 1927. In 1933 Schröder-Lembke enrolled at the University of Rostock for philosophy. Before that, she attended universities in Freiburg , Vienna and Berlin , where she studied history, German and English. She received her doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty in 1935 , the subject of her work was "The development of rural conditions on the island of Poel from the 12th century to 1803". From 1936 to 1939 this was followed by a job as a volunteer and research assistant in the Rostock city archive. In 1939, Schröder-Lembke married the Germanist Walter Johannes Schröder (1910–1984) , who later became a lecturer for older German and Low German philology at the University of Rostock. The couple had a son. Schröder-Lembke worked from 1946 to 1949 as an employee in the Thünen archive of the University of Rostock and in 1949 switched to a position as scientific secretary of the Historical Institute of the University of Rostock. In the winter semester of 1949/50 she received a teaching position for agricultural history. 1951 habilitated they became only the second woman in the University of Rostock at the Faculty of Agriculture with the theme: "The introduction of Kleebaues in Germany before the occurrence Schubart of the clover field." After the unsuccessful attempt to establish a chair for agricultural history, Schröder-Lembke followed her husband to Frankfurt / Main in 1953 .
