Gertrude Schoepperle
Gertrude Schoepperle (born July 15, 1882 in Oil City , Pennsylvania, † December 11, 1921 in Poughkeepsie , New York (state) ) was an American Romance philologist and Celtologist of German descent.
life and work
Gertrude Schoepperle studied at Wellesley College , Radcliffe College , then in Munich, Paris (with Ferdinand Lot , Joseph Bédier and Henri d'Arbois de Jubainville ), and in Dublin. She received her PhD from Radcliffe College in 1909 with parts of the work Tristan and Isolt. A study of the sources of the romance (Frankfurt a. M./London 1913, New York 1960, 1963, 1970). From 1912 to 1913 she taught German at New York University , from 1911 to 1919 she taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where she failed with a Celtology project. From 1919 to 1921 she taught French at Vassar College .
Gertrude Schoepperle was married to Roger Sherman Loomis from August 1919 until her death .
