Songs for the Kreuzkapelle zu Mauersberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chants for the Kreuzkapelle zu Mauersberg ( RMWV 13) are a sacred choral work by the Dresden Kreuzkantor Rudolf Mauersberger . They were based on texts from the Bible and the hymn book . Mauersberger composed them from 1954 to 1956 for solo voices, choir and organ.

History of origin and text selection

The award of the GDR National Prize enabled Mauersberger to finance the construction of the Kreuzkapelle and the family crypt in his hometown of Mauersberg in the Ore Mountains. After the chapel was consecrated on July 5, 1953, Mauersberger rearranged existing works for the chapel and wrote new ones. The chants for the Kreuzkapelle are among the newly composed . Mauersberger dedicated the chants of the Kantorei and Kurrende zu Mauersberg under the direction of Cantor Arno Meyer . They are divided into the five wall slogans of the cross chapel and two arrangements. The wall sayings are texts from the Bible and the hymn book that Mauersberger selected for the wall design of the chapel. The themes of the texts are death and eternity as well as death and resurrection.

Musical means

The chapel sayings are simple, which gives them their emphasis. The simple texts are designed by repeating words and highlighting certain verbs in the otherwise syllabic tone distribution. So in Lord, teach me the Lord call repeats, verbs like help and hope are emphasized.

The organ has an accompanying function, but has its own value in preludes, interludes and replays , for example in Wohlauf, probably on the last course! in the manner of a funeral march . When I know a lovely angel game , the Zimbelstern , small bell and celesta of the organ are used.
