Gesa Mayr (* 1986 ) is a German journalist and editor .

Life and accomplishments

Grew up in Bonn and Berlin , Mayr studied European Studies and Media Culture at the University of Maastricht and the University of Bologna . She completed a traineeship at Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger with outstations at dpa in Washington DC and Spiegel Online .

Professional background

Mayr worked from 2013 to 2016 as an editor at Spiegel Online in the Panorama section. At Bento , she first worked as head of text from June 2016 and then as deputy editor-in-chief from March 2017 . She then moved to Watson in March 2018 to establish the news portal in Germany together with Anne-Kathrin Gerstlauer and to head the editor-in-chief. On November 9, 2018, it was announced that Mayr and Gerstlauer were leaving the editor-in-chief.
