Story of a Crime is a Soviet animated short film from 1962. It was the film debut of director Fyodor Chitruk .

action

In the early morning two housewives talk loudly to each other in the courtyard of a high-rise building. The officer Mamin appears and kills both women with a frying pan, furious. The police appear and want to arrest Mamin. The narrator turns the time back 24 hours to clarify how the act of the previously innocent citizen could come about.

As usual, Mamin got up the previous day and went to work. He is friendly, helpful and courteous, holds the door for mothers and offers seniors his seat in the subway. As always, he does his work reliably and quickly. After working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the end of the day begins. Mamin sits down by the open window at home and has a drink when he is startled by a great noise. In the courtyard, some men are loudly playing dominos and smoking. Mamin closes the window, but cannot enjoy the television program either because another neighbor first listens to music at a deafening volume and then watches a boxing match. Mamin turns off the television with resignation. He goes to bed shortly before midnight, but cannot fall asleep because the neighbors above him are having a party with dance and music. Around 2 a.m. Mamin is woken up again because other neighbors start a loud marital row, smash dishes and later throw them into the garbage disposal after the reconciliation. Mamin has just fallen asleep again when a pair of lovers in the house begins to send knock signals to each other over the heating pipes. Around 5 a.m. Mamin is already exasperated when he only hears the alarm clock or the dripping of the tap. Even his heartbeat is making him nervous now. It is meeting and Mamin has found sleep exhausted when the women in the courtyard begin their loud conversation. Mamin sees red.

The narrator knows that Mamin will be convicted for his act, but hopes that by explaining the acts that preceded the act, he can clarify the situation. A truck drives past Mamin and the policeman. Shortly afterwards, the driver begins to loudly unload the transported goods. "No honking" is written on his truck.
