The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Berenbostel is a mathematical and scientific high school in the Garbsen district of Berenbostel. The school was built in 1976. Since then it has been rebuilt and expanded several times. Two buildings and a soccer field are now part of the school grounds. The high school has 67 teachers and six trainee teachers. Around 800 students attend the school.

School history

In 1976 the seventh and eighth graders from the Garbsen grammar school and the Berenbostel orientation level were merged. At this time there was initially a shortage of teachers with teaching deficits. In the following years, the headmaster at the time succeeded in permanently building and expanding the school. In the 1980s, the east wing was threatened with sinking into the boggy building site. The school had to be cleared and concrete piles were built under the ground. In 2011 the building in the area of the former library was expanded and a canteen for the school center was built there. In 2016 the school celebrated its 40th anniversary. In 2001, the Berenbostel grammar school adopted the addition of "Geschwister-Scholl".

Subject offer

In lower secondary level there are special branches of study in mathematics and science, a mixed French-Latin class and one or two French classes. In the 11th grade, these classes were up to the introduction of the baccalaureate after 12 years divided into new class associations, in the Europe class (focus on understanding in Europe and European Policy), the Mukk class ( M ethods u nd K ommunikations k Competence) and the 0 ° Celsius class (mathematical and scientific part).

Bands and choir

The school band Big Band Berenbostel regularly took top places in nationwide competitions. There is also a stage band and the choir. For the pupils who switch from elementary school to high school, there is the possibility to learn an instrument for two years and then to join the stage or big band. Live performances are also possible in the so-called wind class. Once a week, in small groups, you have the opportunity to improve and practice in instrumental lessons. The choir class, in which one can join for two years, promotes musical singing talent in the context of so-called vocal training in every member. She meets for one and a half hours outside of the existing school hours.

Naming

By adopting the name of the Scholl siblings, the school has made it its motto to encourage and promote young idealistic people, committed to their conscience, to actively and actively resist with civil courage - especially against xenophobia, neo-Nazism, all forms of violence e.g. B. against the disabled and politically dissenters as well as dull-consuming zeitgeist. An important identification mark of the school is a stylized rose, which is supposed to remind of the resistance organization White Rose . It is printed on all school documents and can be found on many door signs. In the foyer of the main building there is a collage and several informational texts that deal critically with the time of National Socialism .
