The Berenbostel high school big band is a jazz band from Garbsen .

The Berenbostel high school big band was founded in 1994 by the former head Bodo Schmidt and now has 30 members. In 2019 it was handed over to Felix Maier when Bodo Schmidt retired. She is known among the school big bands in Lower Saxony and Northern Germany. It sees itself as a musical all-round orchestra with an increasing focus on jazz, but which is also at home in rhythm & blues as well as rock and pop.

Band history

The CD recordings available so far were made in 1996, 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2009. At the end of May 2005 the band traveled to Neuruppin for the federal meeting “Schools make music”. In 1998, 2000 and 2005 she went on concert tours to the USA and made several guest appearances in Poland. Highlights so far have included appearances at Expo 2000 , a joint concert with BuJazzO under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer , an appearance as an intermediate act at Manhattan Transfer and Take 6 in Leverkusen and an appearance at Disneyland in California. In February 2007 the band hosted a concert with trombonist Jiggs Whigham as the conclusion of a multi-day workshop. In October 2007 the band was able to take part in a workshop with Peter Herbolzheimer, which they won at the 2007 Skoda Jazz Prize . In 2009 another workshop with Jiggs Whigham followed, which was also recorded, but workshops with Till Brönner and Jiggs Whigham also took place in 2011 . In 2013 a community concert with the trumpeter Till Brönner followed. In September 2015 the band worked with the composer, arranger and organist Lutz Krajenski.
