Society Anna Amalia Library

The Anna Amalia Library e. V. (GAAB) is a German library society based in Weimar . It was founded on May 15, 2003 and now has more than 300 members. It is a non-profit association for the ideal and material support of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library (HAAB), which was under the supervision of Goethe for over 35 years and today belongs to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar .

In addition to the President of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Hellmut Seemann , and the library director Michael Knoche, the board of trustees includes humanities scholars and personalities from business. The chairman of the board of trustees is the general director of the Saxon State Library - State and University Library Dresden (SLUB), Thomas Bürger. His predecessor was the former director of the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel , the Germanist and library scientist Paul Raabe . The chairwoman of the society is the non-fiction author Annette Seemann . Four scientific or literary lectures take place every year.

After the devastating library fire on September 2, 2004, the association collected donations for the reconstruction of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library. In addition, one of the company's activities is the promotion of changing annual HAAB exhibitions.
