The speckled lady's slipper ( Cypripedium guttatum ) is a species of the genus Cypripedium in the orchid family (Orchidaceae).
features
The speckled lady's slipper is a perennial plant with a rhizome that reaches heights of 10 to 38 centimeters. The stem is two-leaved. The leaves are almost opposite and measure 4.5 to 12.5 × 2.5 to 5.5 centimeters. The outer and inner tepals are white and more or less red spotted. The lip is 1.4 to 2.2 inches long and strongly spotted with red to one-sided red.
Flowering time is from April to May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
Occurrence
The speckled lady's slipper occurs in cool northwestern North America, Eastern Europe, Siberia, Bhutan and southern Tibet in damp to dry fallen leaves and coniferous forests as well as in grass and scree meadows at altitudes up to 4100 meters. The distribution area ranges from European Russia to Korea, includes Japan and extends from Alaska to Yukon.
