The Gez ( Chinese  盖 孜 河 , Pinyin Gàizī Hé ; Russian Гёздарья ), also Gjosdarja , is a river in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the far west of the People's Republic of China .

The Gez rises east of the Muztagata at the Turbulung Pass . In the upper reaches it flows through a wide high valley in a northerly direction. The Karakoram Highway follows the course of the river. The Gez cuts through the eastern Pamir Mountains between Kongur in the south and Chakragil in the north. It finally reaches the Tarim Basin south of Kashgar , where it splits into several river arms. The river is used to irrigate the oases there .
