Gheorghe Brandabura (born February 23, 1913 in Fedeleşoiu , Argeş County ) was a Romanian football player . He was used in 148 matches in the top Romanian league, Divizia A , and was in the squad for the 1938 World Cup .

Career

Brandabura began playing football at Juventus Bucharest , where he was promoted to the first team of the reigning champions in 1930 at the age of 17. Since Juventus failed to qualify for the final round of the Romanian football championship in the following years, and since the team was not one of the founding members of Divizia A , Brandabura did not make his debut at the national level until September 17, 1933.

The time at Juventus passed without any outstanding sporting success. After relegation at the end of the 1939/40 season , Brandabura left the club and moved to local rivals Venus Bucharest , one of the leading Romanian clubs of the 1930s. Brandabura also did not succeed with Venus. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War and the associated suspension of Divizia A, only the Romanian Cup remained . Here, too, there is only a second place from 1940 , when the decisive game was played in the following season.

After the end of the war, contrary to the qualifications previously achieved, Venus was not divided into Divizia A, but into the second-rate Divizia B when gaming operations resumed in 1946. Brandabura remained loyal to the club and ended his career in 1948.

National team

Brandabura played four games for the Romanian national soccer team . He made his debut on July 8, 1937 against Lithuania . The following year he was in Romania's squad for the 1938 World Cup in France , but was not used there.
