Gheorghe Caranfil

Gheorghe Caranfil (born February 21, 1930 in Hălăuceşti , Iaşi district ) is a former Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who between 1980 and 1984 was Minister for the Chemical Industry and from 1984 to 1990 the last Ambassador to the GDR was. He was also Minister for the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry between 1989 and 1990.

Life

Chemical engineer, operations director and member of parliament

Gheorghe Caranfil attended the Romanesque High School in Iași from 1941 to 1949 and during this time he joined the UAER Union of Students' Associations (Uniunea Asociațiilor Elevilor din România) as a member. After graduating from school, he began studying at the Faculty of Chemical Industry at the Polytechnic Institute in Iași in 1949, from which he graduated in February 1954 as a chemical engineer. During his studies, between 1949 and 1954 he was a member of the committee of the Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor (UTM), the youth organization of the Labor Party, at the Faculty of Chemical Industry and from 1953 to 1954 also a member of the UTM committee at the Polytechnic Institute. After completing his studies, he first became an engineer in February 1954 and, after a three-month advanced training course in the Soviet Union in 1956, chief engineer at the Chemical Combine No. 1 in Făgăraș , where he worked until April 1958.

In April 1958, Caranfil switched to the synthetic fibers company (Azochim Săvineşti) , where he was first an engineer and then chief engineer, before becoming general director of this company between April 1962 and June 1966. During this time he was also vice-president of the trade union committee, propaganda officer and member of the company's party committee. At the same time he was a member of the party committee of the Moldova region between 1962 and 1966 and studied at the evening university for Marxism - Leninism from 1963 to 1965 . Furthermore, he became a member of the city party committee of Piatra Neamț in 1964 and has since completed courses at the University of Politics and Management. He had been a member of the Union of Petroleum Chemicals Unions since 1963 and became a member of the Central Council of Unions (Consiliul Central al Sindicatelor) in 1964 . In 1965 he became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and represented the constituency of Girov in this until 1969 . He also became a member of the National Council for Scientific Research (Consiliul Național al Cercetării Științifice) on December 30, 1965 .

Minister, ambassador to the GDR and awards

On June 8, 1966, Gheorghe Caranfil joined the government and was Deputy Minister for the Chemical Industry until April 1, 1980. He had also been a member of the National Council for Environmental Protection since March 9, 1974. In addition, since September 1, 1979, he was president of the commission for typing and standardization in the chemical sector and at the same time a member of the party and state commission for typing and standardization in the economy. At the Twelfth Party Congress of the PCR (November 19-23, 1979) he became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR and was a member of this body until the Thirteenth Party Congress of the PCR (November 19-22, 1984) .

On April 1, 1980, Caranfil became Minister for Chemical Industry (Ministrul industriei chimice) in the Verdeț II cabinet and held this office from May 21, 1982 until his replacement by Gheorghe Dinu on February 8, 1984 in the Dăscălescu I cabinet . After leaving the government, he replaced Gheorghe Tache as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the German Democratic Republic on June 18, 1984 , and held this diplomatic post until December 28, 1989.

Gheorghe Caranfil has received several awards for his longstanding services and received, among other things, the 1963 Star of the People's Republic of Romania, fifth class (Ordinul Steaua Republicii Populare Române) . In addition, he was awarded the Order of Labor Third and Second Class (Ordinul Muncii) .
