Giacomo David

Giacomo David (* 1750 in Presezzo near Bergamo ; † December 31, 1830 in Bergamo) was an Italian opera singer ( tenor ) who created leading roles in important operas for decades.

Life

As a self-taught singer, he studied composition with Nicola Sala in Naples . His singing career in Italy first took him to Turin , Naples , Venice and Milan , where he was involved in the opening performance of the Teatro Carcano in an opera by Vincenzo Federici in 1803 .

In 1791 he moved to London and later to Paris . He is considered the "father" of the well-known Bergamo tenor school.

Together with his wife, the soprano Paola geb. Borelli, he had the son Giovanni David .
