Gian Töndury (doctor)

Gian Töndury (born March 17, 1906 in Samedan , † March 15, 1985 in Zurich ) was a Swiss doctor and anatomist . He was Professor of Anatomy and Developmental History at the University of Zurich .

Life

Gian Töndury studied medicine at the University of Zurich. After graduating as Dr. med. In 1931 he completed his habilitation in 1935 and taught as a private lecturer in anatomy. In 1949 he was appointed Professor of Anatomy and Developmental History at the University of Zurich. In 1954 he served as dean of the medical faculty and 1968–1969 as rector of the university. In 1977 he retired .

Gian Töndury received various awards, including the Otto Naegeli Prize in 1962 , and was President of the Swiss Natural Research Society from 1959 to 1964 . In 1958 Töndury was elected to the Leopoldina .
