Gianluca Branco (* 20th September 1970 in Civitavecchia ) is an Italian professional boxer in the welterweight division . He is the younger brother of the boxing world champion Silvio Branco .

Career

Gianluca Branco started professional boxing in 1995 at the age of 24 and remained undefeated in 33 fights. He was Italian champion, intercontinental champion of the WBU and European champion of the EBU in the light welterweight division. In 2004 he lost the fight for the WBC World Championship against Arturo Gatti . In 2006 he lost a WBO world championship fight against Miguel Cotto .

After he had become European light welterweight champion again, he tried to win the welterweight title, but failed because of Matthew Hatton . He finally won the European welterweight belt in November 2014.
