Gianni Clerici (born July 24, 1930 in Como , Lombardy , Italy ) is an Italian tennis journalist , columnist and writer .

Life and achievement

Clerici became known for his more than 40 years of reporting at the tennis grand slam tournaments. He reported on over 170 major tournaments and wrote over 6,000 articles with a focus on tennis. His career as a journalist began in 1956 as a reporter and columnist for the Milan daily Il Giorno . He has been working for the Roman newspaper La Repubblica since 1988 and for the weekly L'Espresso since 1960 .

In his work as a writer the following books were published: 1974 the “500 Anni di Tennis” (English Ultimate Tennis Book ), which was published in several languages ​​(German adaptation by Ulrich Kaiser ). In 1965 the introductory guide "Il Vero Tennis" came out and in 1972 the volume "II Tennis Facile" followed. In 1984 a biography of the successful tennis player Suzanne Lenglen was published .

In addition, Gianni Clerici worked for an Italian television station for three decades as a commentator and received numerous prizes and honors, including in 2006 his admission to the International Tennis Hall of Fame for his services to tennis.
