Giedrius Kuprevičius

Giedrius Antanas Kuprevičius (born April 8, 1944 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian composer and musician, carilloneur and former politician.

Life

From 1958 to 1962 he graduated from the children's music school and then learned composition at the Juozas Gruodis Conservatory in Kaunas , from 1962 to 1968 he studied at the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy with Eduardas Balsys .

From 1988 to 1990 he was the first deputy minister of culture of the Lithuanian SSR . From 1990 to 1999 he taught as a lecturer at Vytautas Magnus University , and from 1992 to 1993 he was Deputy Mayor of Kaunas. From 2000 to 2012 he was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the Technical University of Kaunas (KTU) . He has also taught at the Medical Academy of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences , the Agricultural Academy of the Vytautas Magnus University , the Vilnius University and the Lithuanian Music and Drama Academy.

His work includes operas, musicals, symphonies, chamber music, oratorios and vocal cycles. He has played the Carillon Kaunas since 1957 and has been a manager since 1998.
