Neubokel is a village district in the west of the city of Gifhorn in the Gifhorn district in Lower Saxony . Neubokel is considered to be the potato stronghold of Lower Saxony.

In the transition area between Harz and Heide , the area of ​​the district of Neubokel extends to the west of Gifhorn .

Neubokel is surrounded by woods, meadows and from the ice age coming moraines ( basic - / terminal moraines ). The landscape is largely determined by a nature reserve. To the east it turns into a gently undulating hill country, to the south into the Aller glacial valley .

In a clockwise direction, Neubokel borders the field marks of the following localities: north of Wilsche , north-east of Gamsen , east of Gifhorn , south of Leiferde and west of Ettenbüttel (with guild and Brenneckenbrück ).

history

The village of Neubokel (with Wilsche and Wüst) was one of the first villages in the Gifhorn area. Experts suspect that the village of Neubokel (then Bokel) has existed since around 500 AD and has been continuously inhabited since then. However, the first written evidence, written by the Corvey Monastery , has only existed since the year 826.

Around the year 1300 a "curia" was established in Neubokel, a Bocla farm belonging to the monastery in Marienrode . Around the year 1400 a chapel was built in Neubokel, if no monastery of its own, in which services were also held. In 1526 it is reported that the Bocla farm was separated from the monastery in Marienrode and became a ducal fore of Duke Ernst from the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . This gave Neubokel an independent monastery. At the end of the 18th century, the Neubokel Vorwerk became a village consisting of 14 houses. The school was also founded at this time.

In today's industrial age, Neubokel is a popular residence for commuter families with children, so the population has doubled in the last 40 years. In particular, today's Neubokel developed from the earlier Bokla via Bockeln .

Neubokel was incorporated into the town of Gifhorn on March 1, 1974 with the also independent communities of Kästorf , Gamsen , Wilsche and Winkel as part of the Lower Saxony regional reform .
