The giant tomb Imbertighe ( pronunciation : [ im'bɛrtige ]) is located southeast of Borore , in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia . The buildings mentioned in Sardu Tumbas de sos zigantes and ( Italian Tombe dei Giganti ) (plur.) Are the largest prenuraghic cult structures in Sardinia and are among the latest megalithic structures in Europe . The 321 known giant tombs are monuments of the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (1,800–1,500 BC), the forerunner culture of the Nuragher.

Type sequence

Structurally, giant tombs appear in two variants. The systems with portal steles and exedra are of the older type. In later systems, the exedra consists of a rectangular façade, significantly raised in the middle, made of processed and layered ( Italian tipo dolmenico - dolmen type) stone blocks instead of monolithic steles . Imbértighe is an older type of facility (with portal stele).

description

The Imbértighe facility has only a rudimentary gallery and no longer any exedra. However, its unusually high, perfectly shaped portal stele at 3.65 m has been preserved. The investigation revealed that the gallery was originally about 11.5 m long and one meter wide on the outside and 9.0 m on the inside.
