The Gigaset Communications GmbH (formerly Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices GmbH & Co. KG ) is a manufacturer of DECT telephones only, tablets and smartphones based in Bocholt . The company emerged from Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices, a 100 percent subsidiary of Siemens . The company has been wholly owned by the listed Gigaset AG since 2008 .
history
The initially wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens AG was founded on October 1, 2005. The company continues the activities of the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) division of Communications, a former division of Siemens AG. The company was founded after Siemens parted with its mobile communications division (MD) on October 1, 2005. CPE, which previously worked together with MD, remained with Siemens and was converted into an independent company.
On October 1, 2006, the COM division at Siemens was dissolved. The network division went into a joint venture with Nokia , and the corporate business ( HiCOM ) was converted into an independent GmbH & Co. KG - Siemens Enterprise Communications , SEN for short. This subsidiary of Siemens AG in turn maintains a GmbH & Co. KG, Siemens Enterprise Communications Management Manufacturing GmbH & Co. KG , which runs Siemens Enterprise Communications Manufacturing GmbH & Co. KG . In the latter, the Optipoint ( HiPath ) series, also Open Stage since 2007, is manufactured. In the 2005 financial year (September 30th) the company achieved sales of around one billion euros.
With effect from August 1, 2008, Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices GmbH & CO. KG was sold 80.2 percent to Arques Industries and has been operating under the name Gigaset Communications GmbH since October 1, 2008 .
At the beginning of 2009, Gigaset had 2,100 employees, 1,670 of them in Germany. The predecessor company Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices achieved sales of around one billion euros in fiscal year 2005 (September 30). On 1 July 2009 sold Gigaset Communications GmbH , the WiMAX and broadband divisions to - Sagem -Communications .
As of December 31, 2013, Gigaset Communications had 1,039 employees in Germany. In the same year a turnover of 307 million euros was achieved.
In August 2013 Gigaset presented the SL930A, the first DECT landline phone with a touchscreen and the Android operating system . In November 2013, Gigaset Communications entered the tablet market and presented the QV 830 and QV 1030 tablets, which are supplied with the Android operating system . Unlike the cordless phones, the tablets are not manufactured at Gigaset's Bocholt location , but by contract manufacturers at other locations. Gigaset announced that it would introduce more tablets in 2014.
At the beginning of September 2015, Gigaset presented three smartphones: the entry-level model ME Pure and the two top models ME and ME Pro. While the first two models have a 5-inch touchscreen, the screen diagonal of the ME Pro is 5.5 inches.
In November 2015 it became known that Gigaset wanted to part with 550 employees. The new Chinese major shareholder of Gigaset AG, Pan Sutong, would like to establish Gigaset as a smartphone manufacturer and had the Gigaset trademark rights for 29 million euros (which have not yet been paid) transferred to itself in September 2015. The profit from the smartphones does not go directly to Gigaset AG, but to a Singaporean mailbox company controlled by Sutong.
At the end of May 2018 it was announced that part of the smartphone production would be set up in Germany and the GS185 model would be produced in Bocholt . The other models, the GS100 and GS180, will continue to be produced in China. The GS280 and GS195 models presented in 2019 are also manufactured in Germany.
