The Yellow Thrush ( Turdus grayi ) or Schlichtdrossel is a songbird from the thrush family (Turdidae). The yellow owl has been the national bird of Costa Rica since 1977 . In Costa Rica it is called "yiguirro".
description
The clay-colored bird has a yellow beak and red-brown iris rings . The yellow thrush reaches a body length of 23 to 27 centimeters and a weight of 65 to 86 grams.
habitat
The species is found mainly in Costa Rica, Mexico and northern Colombia . It lives in open terrain and light forests up to an altitude of 2,450 meters.
nutrition
The yellow owl feeds mainly on fruits , insects and velvet worms , but does not disdain smaller lizards either.
Reproduction
The female lays two to four eggs , which are incubated for about two weeks until the young birds hatch.
