Gilbert Chapron (born October 7, 1933 in Blois , Loir-et-Cher , France ; † September 5, 2016 ) was a French light heavyweight boxer.

amateur

Chapron was French champion in 1955 in light heavyweight (-81 kg) and in 1956 in middleweight (-75 kg).

In 1955 Chapron took part in the European Championships , but was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Erich Schöppner , Germany . However, in the same year he won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games .

At the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne , Chapron won the bronze medal in the middleweight division. After defeating Roger Rouse, United States , he was defeated in the semifinals by Chilean Ramón Tapia on points.

professional

His professional career began in 1957 with a streak of thirteen wins. It was not until April 1960 that a title fight for the French light heavyweight championship finally took place. Chapron lost to his opponent Paul Roux by a technical knockout in the thirteenth round. At the end of 1964, he ended his career after losing points to his compatriot Carlo Bocchieri .
