Giles Foden
Giles Foden (* 1967 in Warwickshire ) is an English writer.
Life
When Giles Foden was five years old, his family moved to Africa, where they lived for the next 20 years in different countries, such as Malawi and Uganda. Several of his novels draw themes and motifs from this African period. He studied at Fitzwilliam and St. John's College in Cambridge .
Foden worked as a journalist for Media Week Magazine and the Times Literary Supplement and was literary editor for The Guardian from 1995 to 2006 . He teaches creative writing at the Universities of London and East Anglia (Norwich) and writes regularly for The Guardian and several magazines.
His first novel, The Last King of Scotland , was a bestseller and won several awards. The book became known worldwide in a significantly changed form through the Oscar- winning film adaptation with Forest Whitaker in the role of the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin .
